rainy days are mondays

RAINY DAYS ARE MONDAYS
watercolor on paper, Lester B. Rodriguez

I attended the art fair last saturday and saw this beautiful painting by the door. i instantly thought, magaling super the painter kasi ung lighting super nice. as in. and then, magpapapicture sana ako kaya lang there was a group of girls na nagpipicture with the painting so sa iba na lang. and besides, parang hindi mayadong happy colors, at super mahal, there is no way i can buy. like 120K or something. so dun na lang sa mga may pag-asa akong mabili. haha. anyway, fast forward to yesterday, habang nagfafacebook ako, my high school classmate T posted something about his paintings in the art fair. and whoaaaa! ito ang painting niya! siyempre, naharass ako, i had to talk to him. haha. as in when he said the title, parang OMG! i knew that! I knew that! Grabe. Super talented pa rin si T! walang kupas! at hindi ko maget over, P120K each painting! OMG! Im sooo proud of you! Libre! Libre! haha.

F! had a sleepover in my house para magjogging sa alma mater niya while i worked. hmmph. dahil kakaburn lang niya ng calories, lets go fatty foods tayo, which i actually love. haha.

i am thisclose to buying a Vintage Folksvagen. Super. (OMG! i can imagine my dad grimacing at me! with matching - "Umentra ka na naman sa kaartehan mo, my complete name!") Eh, everyday ba naman akong grinigreet ng super daming Foklsvagen sa blissful community ko. And let us not forget that grey one i saw last week sa ortigas. ito na naman ang mga TIEF (totally impractical but enormous fun!) moments in my life. and promise ko, this time, ill drive na talaga. even in the metro.

J, SuperFriend M,Y,L,K and HonoraryMember T!

Kawaii Complete: F,Z,Y,J,L,K

Kawaii Supercharged: M,F,L,A,K,Y,R

because my mom is soo giddy and excited with the upcoming trip with her friends, bigla kong naalala all our kawaii travels. the bug started with that visayan trip na super napakadami kong namiss sa 3 days na nauna sila sa akin sa iloilo at dumaguete (hmmph) and that scary bit in siquijor, and magnificent bohol and our pampulubi cebu. then off to malaysia in that backpacker house, and singapura in Yfamily's pangmayaman condo. (OMG! its been 2 years since then). Last year, we had bora (ang.ganda.ng.discovery!) and the 8-hour bus trip from iloilo. in between, may mga manaoag, tagaytay, baguio at kung ano-ano pa. but its been almost a year since the last time we went out of town, at parang walang plano kung meron this year. at dahil hindi sila nagbabasa ng blog ko, malamang hindi nila maiisip. maybe after Y's exams. Hmmmnnn.

weekend

jester skirt

laguna de bay

i always have to go home every weekend, or my Lola will kill me (haha). Here, i went around the neighborhood with my cousins who love pictures as much as I do. I also did some test shots for the photo shoot I will be having for my VintageManila store. Im wearing my jester (as in jester hat) skirt with seashells.

photo shoot

wannabe model

With my cousins, all wannabe models !

the day i was stylist, photographer, crew, yaya, cook, entertainer all at once. whew!

Been a little busy fixing stuff for my VintageManila store the past week. I had a photo shoot with my cousin yesterday in time for the store opening on July 7. We used my Lola's house as backdrop. Sometimes I forget how magnificent this house is. I just know this as my one big playground growing up. Per my Lolo's will, the house will be turned into a museum handled by the Local Government and me (haha) when my Lola dies. Until then, this will serve as the official backdrop of the VintageManila store. Here, im wearing my vintage effortless skirt-dress from my Loyola days pa, and my Daddy's original super super old Ray-ban aviator.

para sa barristers

the perfect gadget for barristers. super late naman nito sa kin. im sure if this was available when i was reviewing for the bar, i bought one, pero dahil $115 siya wala pang shipping, malamang nagimprovise ako. wahaha. But, seriously, Prison-style study ball! A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! ang official description-- "A heavy ball-and-chain combo with a timer that releases the lock automatically after a predetermined amount of time has been depleted. The 20.95-pound weight makes sure anyone locked to it can’t escape from the wonderful books easily until time is up." The study ball is what every ADHD barrister needs! haha and don't worry, pwede namang ioverride via a tiny safety key for emergencies and bathroom breaks.

Ten Essential Items

Blame it on the Gemini in me. I know i just said there are no rules in style, but here I am, a sucker for Tim Gunn's show. Wahaha. I think Tim appeals to the Jackie O part of me. and also because Tim looks super respectable! and very cool. hindi siya shrieking hyena. at always dapper. Anyway, im echoing The Ten Elements or The Ten Essential Items of my dear Tim Gunn here. And i can almost hear him say- These items are mostly classic pieces, but what's important is whether they fit you properly, are not outdated, and bring out your best features!

Basic Black Dress - The basic black dress has been around for a long time. It is often called the "Little Black Dress", and it's true that shorter skirts on the basic black dress, when they hit you in the right place, can be more flattering than a long black dress.

Trench Coat - The trench coat is one of the pieces that is both classic and currently a hot fashion item. Most any store sells this piece now.

Dress Pants - Although it doesn't say black, this is probably what you want to look for. Black is flattering on all figures and goes with everything.

Classic Shirt - The white shirt is a definite classic. But it can also come in many different styles to make it look trendy and not dated or like a man's piece of clothing. Find one that accentuates your best attributes and minimizes trouble spots. For example, if you have wide shoulders, stay away from large collars.

Jeans - Everyone has a pair of jeans, but does everyone have a pair of jeans that make them look great? The wider leg, low-rise jean style has been popular (and still is) but a narrower leg is coming back along with a higher waist, which eliminates the unflattering "muffin top" look.

Any Occasion Top - Find something you look great in that can look respectable under a jacket but bring on the fun after hours.

Skirt - If you need dress pants then you also need a skirt. A skirt is womanly and can be flirty or businesslike. Nowadays women do not wear many skirts or dresses, which makes a lot of them fall into a rut of dressing sloppily or like men.

Day Dress - Women also are not wearing as many dresses anymore. It was certainly liberating to go from the '50s when women wore dresses every day to wearing more practical pants for gardening, exercising, and so forth. But the dress does not have to be abandoned altogether. They can be very flattering, and there is nothing wrong with "dressing up" for daytime.

Jacket - A jacket does not have to be masculine. Find one with a proper, fitted shape. Women's jackets should follow the silhouette of a woman's body and accent the hourglass curve at her waist. It is also a perfect piece to put with the skirt or dress pants, and white shirt. Or make it casual with a pair of jeans.

Sweatsuit Alternative - As mentioned before, women wear fewer skirts and dresses these days. But some women have taken casual to the extreme and spend days on end in sweatsuits. It is possible to be casual and comfortable without looking like a slob. Find a comfortable material (that's why this doesn't say jeans again – denim is not as comfortable as a nice soft cotton) that you would want to wear every day. It could be khakis, cords, a cotton dress, or much more.

the thriumph of the tutu

This is my karinska tutu! and as usual, its vintage! I really love this dress because its so simple and effortless! the skirt is soo colorful i dont need accessories anymore! A karinska tutu is soft and loose, as opposed to those na may hoops kaya pwede for everyday. Kulang na lang ang tights, magdadance studio na ko! haha. Anyway, my mother calls this style lowline because the cut starts sa second hips, and according to her, maling style for my long torso body! whoaa. whats the fuss?! i think its ok because its still above the knee. So kita pa rin ang legs, at maghavaiianas high na lang for that extra inch. wink! wink!

Bjork!

Let me start this blog by paying homage to one of my fashion icons, Bjork! Yup, the Icelandic singer with the infamous swan dress of Oscars fashion history. Seeing Bjork walk the red carpet in that swan dress-- it just dawned on me that YOU CAN ACTUALLY WEAR WHAT YOU WANT, WHEREVER! so if you wanna be a swan, by all means, go, even if its THE Oscars! So even though that swan dress may be a little horrible for others, it was just fabulously fantastic for me because it was bold, and courageous and soooo Bjork! That girl Bjork taught me that indeed, STYLE HAS NO RULES. As long as you're wearing who you are, your style shines through. WOW! ANG GALING! See, I grew up thinking that style equals Jackie O and Holly Golightly. alone. Simple classic pieces are what you need to be stylish. Which makes perfect sense, actually, but My Gosh, I was in college! Then, all I wanted was "look at me accessories" or "im screaming shirts" and although I was happy wearing those, at the back of my mind, i thought i was tacky. So un-Jackie o-like! But Bjork came. And oohlala. The earth shook.
